About Us

     The Buffalo Bill Museum  is located at 199 North Front Street in  Le Claire , Iowa , 52753.  

The museum ‘s  Mission Statement is “The mission of the Buffalo Bill Museum, Inc. is to

collect, preserve, interpret and exhibit historical, cultural and educational artifacts depicting

the heritage of this region, particularly life along the Mississippi River in eastern Iowa and

western Illinois and its early pioneers like Buffalo Bill (William F. Cody).

Buffalo Bill Museum

     A brief history written by Debbie Smith that was implemented for a grant.  The Buffalo Bill

Museum of LeClaire,, Inc. is a 501 C 3 nonprofit organization and received its IRS letter of

determination on September 25, 1969.   It was founded by the LeClaire Women’s Club in 1957. 

The Museum is also tax exempt in the State of Iowa and is an organization “In Good Standing”

dating back to June 10, 1957.  The Museum is listed on Guidestar, a web-based reporting tool for

nonprofit organizations in the Unites States and abroad. 

     A dedicated board of fifteen members provides volunteer leadership and hands-on project

support, creating exhibits, staffing the front desk, and planning the dedication of the Lone Star

Steam wheeler the summer of 2008, which is actually the 14th of September now Another group

of 40 volunteers provide services such as hosts, and tour guides, who volunteer 4,000 hours each

year.

     Each year the Buffalo Bill Museum attracts 10,000+ tourists from all over the United States

and dozens of international countries.
